The National Archaeological park of Naquane

The national archaeological park

of naquane

It was founded in 1955 to protect and enhance one of the most important complex of engraved rocks in Valle Camonica and in 1979 it was included in the UNESCU sites (Site n.94 – Rock art of Valle Camonica).

The park is located to the left of the Oglio river in a place called “Naquane” (in old times “Aquane”, for the presence of water sources. ACQUA=WATER).

In a landscape dominated by chestnuts, firs, birches and hornbeams, you can discover the 104 wide rocks of sand-stones smoothed by the ice, sporting real and symbolical representations of the daily and spiritual life of peoples lived between the Neolithic and the Iron Age.
